At UChicago Medicine, we support any patient with an Inspire device, regardless of whether our team implanted it.

New patients will require a full medical evaluation. We will check your device and its current settings as part of a full in-office evaluation of its effectiveness. This will include correlating its treatment settings with your tongue motion. We can also do an in-office awake endoscopy exam to assess different electrode settings. A device technologist will be available during the visit if required.

You should schedule a visit every six to twelve months to ensure the device effectively treats your sleep apnea.

Inspire Device Tune-Up and Troubleshooting Clinic

For patients requiring additional troubleshooting for an Inspire device, our team at UChicago Medicine can assess the full range of sleep and airway factors that might impede your successful treatment.

An advanced drug induced sleep endoscopy procedure with your Inspire device allows your physician to test different settings while you sleep.

Following your exam, your physician will recommend appropriate next steps – from adjusting the device settings to combined modality therapy or even a second-stage surgery. Some recent medical studies have highlighted the potential benefit of combining an oral appliance or throat surgery with the continued use of an Inspire device to effectively treat patients who do not respond fully to initial therapy.

Inspire Battery Clinic

Your battery likely needs replacement if you have had an Inspire device for nearly 10 years.

Schedule an appointment to confirm your battery needs replacement. Your physician will use an in-office generator interrogation and battery check device.

Changing the battery requires a minor procedure to change the generator computer device. Your physician will attach a new generator to your existing wire leads.
