Safe Kids South Chicagoland
The University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children’s Hospital is home to Safe Kids Worldwide's South Chicagoland chapter. Safe Kids is the first and only international organization solely dedicated to preventing childhood injury, the number one cause of death for children under 14. As the area’s largest provider of care for kids, Comer Children’s is uniquely positioned to partner with local community organizations to offer resources and programs that help keep children safe.
Safe Kids South Chicagoland organizes events that teach car and bike safety along with classes to show families how to create safe environments for their infants. In 2017, the team launched an Aetna-funded initiative featuring a mobile computer lab that educates parents and kids about how to prevent cyberbullying.

Poj Lysouvakon, MD
Pediatrician Poj Lysouvakon, MD, is director of the University of Chicago Pediatric Injury Prevention Program. He also practices at the Friend Health - Hyde Park, which serves nearby underserved communities. Dr. Lysouvakon’s primary research interests are newborn health and preventive medicine.
Matthew Louzon
Matthew Louzon is the Safe Kids South Chicagoland coordinator. He also leads Comer Children’s efforts to educate parents and medical staff about car seat safety. Louzon conducts dozens of community events each year aimed at raising awareness around important child safety issues.
Stephanie Hair
Stephanie Hair is a licensed social worker at the University of Chicago Medicine’s Well Newborn Nursery and Women’s Care Center. She specializes in providing psychosocial support to families throughout the pregnancy and postpartum period in order to maximize parent-child well-being in early childhood. Stephanie is passionate about connecting parents with local community resources and programs.
